Student’s name: Daniel Wiemken
UniKL MICET Supervisors: Dr R.T. Bachmann
Wismar University: Prof. M. Wilichowski
Project Title: Techno-economical feasibility study on the chromium recovery from electroplating effluents
Date of Industrial training & duration: Start: 30/03/09 ~ Duration: 6 months
Student’s Testimonial:
“Before I come to Malaysia to work on my final thesis, I have already heard about the beautiful nature and the impressive of multicultural life. I saw it as a great chance for me to open my mind for different religions, interesting people, climate and for delicious food, naturally. Improving my chemical and English skills to a higher level was also important for me. Â
Summing up, I was amazed with the size of MICET and the variety of available equipment and facilities. During my project I got great support from my Supervisors and everybody in UniKL MICET. The mixture of the friendliness of the people, the impressive nature, climate and food makes Malaysia and especially UniKL MICET to a really good place to study and I had a great time there. I miss Malaysia already.”

Student’s name: Fabian Rupp
UniKL MICET Supervisors: Dr R.T. Bachmann
Wismar University: Prof. Dr. H. Gerath & Prof. Diedrichs
Project Title: Production and physico-chemical characterisation of biochar from rubber wood sawdust
Date of Industrial training & duration: Start: 30/03/09 ~ Duration: 6 months
Student’s Testimonial: “Here are a few lines about my Malaysian experiences. I had known that it would be warm and a multicultural country before I packed my bags for the “Final Year Project” adventure in Malaysia. But during my stay, I learned to love the beautiful nature, fresh and nice food created by helpful and friendly Malaysians. Furthermore I recognized how it felt to be the “monkey in the zoo” with all its good and bad sights. But the biggest benefit for me is that I will be by far more tolerant towards other cultures with their different traditions and lifestyles, because for me it was the first time that I got really in touch with the Muslims. By the way, I liked my work and managed a good progress in a well equipped facility for future chemical engineers.

Student’s name: Matthias Spöttle UniKL MICET Supervisors: Assoc. Prof. Dr Ahmad Marzio Yusof & Mr Muzafar Zulkifli
Wismar University: Prof. Wilichowski
Project Title: Development and characterization of modified-starch filled polyisoprene latex for enhanced biodegradability
Date of Industrial training & duration: Start: 30/03/09 ~ Duration: 6 months
Student’s Testimonial:
“I’ll try to compress this half year in five sentences.
We started this experience as a group of three students with big expectations like great flora and fauna as well as sun shine all day in Malaysia. It turned out to be the end of the study in a paradise with unbelievable memories. The first awesome surprise was Dr. Rob’s "big" car to fetch us, heavily loaded with luggage, from KLIA to A'Famosa Resort, but we are engineers and that's an easy task to solve, that might be our first test.
Hot food, friendly people and religious live style are the impressions that I'll remember and the many nice training sessions in Tampin’s Futsal Center too. The work in the labs received support from all staff. I was amazed because for all of them it was so natural to help one another. I don't want to miss all the nice experiences and it also was a personal and cultural growth.”
